For two to three months in midwinter, the fjords teem with life. In recent years, a large number of humpback and killer whales have migrated to the fjords of Northern Norway. What attracts these whales in along the coast?
In autumn, Norwegian spring-spawning herring travel to the area surrounding northern Troms and western Finnmark, where they rest before moving further south again to spawn. So around Christmas, it’s time for the whales to feast! Hundreds of orcas and humpbacks gather to feast on the herring, which is one of the most incredible natural spectacles I have ever witnessed.
